Scalloped Hammerhead top Shark #4

Found in warm shallow waters worldwide, the unique hammerhead has been implicated in only a handful of attacks on people. Rays and other sharks are much more to their liking, gastronomically speaking. Given that the eyes and nostrils are located at the outer points of the "hammer", it seems likely top that this appendage is more of a sensory than a maneuverability aid.
Carved from rescued hardwood, this piece was stained, then painted and protected in acrylics. It measures about 11-3/4" long and 8-1/2" high by 4" wide at the pectoral fins. Mounted by dowel to a poplar base, it is dated and initialed by myself.
Once you get used to the hammerhead's odd appearance, it is a strikingly beautiful fish, seemingly all power and aquadynamics.
