Product code: LITTLE top RED | Victorian Locket, Gold Fill and Intact | Two Pictures and Glass Inside | Gold Filled Metal | Faceted Garnet | Bliss Brothers

LITTLE RED, so named for the striking faceted garnet at its center, is a beautiful example of turn of the century gold fill lockets. At a time when exceptional standards of design were present for solid gold, sterling silver, and gold filled lockets alike, this sturdy and unusual specimen is a prime example of the power of restraint coupled with little flares of drama.

The locket is approximately one and a quarter inch in diameter (1 3/8"t x 1 3/16"w.) , and it hangs off of a sturdy 18 inch chain, marked 1/20 14k.. At its interior, and behind two thin, but intact, panels of glass, are family photographs, one of two women , perhaps sisters, posing together, and one of a baby, obviously the darling of the family. The patina on this locket has been left undisturbed.

While the front is simply rendered, smooth, minutely worn, with a powerful shock of faceted natural garnet, the reverse is engraved with a teeming monogram which I cannot quite suss out the letters of.

One small dent to the back, and a number of incidental surface scratches, do nothing to dull the wondrous nature of this antique locket.
