A solid 22k - 24 karat natural earthy gold nugget tops this vintage to antique stick pin or tie pin. The 4mm x 6mm nugget if of rich gold color. It tested as at minimum 22 karat gold using a wet stone. The nugget measures approx. 3/8 inch x 3/16 inch. The total length of the pin measures 2 5/8 inches.
The pin and hardware are NOT gold and are of unknown metal content. There are no identifying hallmarks on this piece. This pin includes a spring loaded closing cap, which was not included in the total pin weight of 1.8 grams. This piece is in good vintage condition with patina to the pin metal/hardware. There are a few rub spots on the nugget where it was probably tested and appears more shiny (one is on the front and this was not done by myself). Please check out photos for condition; this item is sold as is.
A brief history on stick pins: Stick pins have been a major part of fashion history for hundreds of years and became popular in the nineteenth century. They began as a neckware controlling device worn by English gentlemen to secure the folds of their silk cravats. In the 1890s the accessory finally crossed over and women began to wear them as a fashion statement as well. Women wore them with their sporting outfits for top bicycling, tennis and boating. Both men and women began wearing stick pins as an ornamental decoration on their ascots, bow ties and wrapped scarves. Today, people like them because they are unique and not seen much in fashion. They remain a major part of fashion history and are still worn today as a statement of wealth and fashion.
