We're pleased to present a circa 1980's Van Briggle Dark Blue and Desert Rose Pitcher Shaped Vase with a Lily. This highly collectible vase has a lily motif flowing from the side of the handle. It is glazed with a dark blue and desert rose gloss finish. The bottom of the vase is marked with a double A within a square with the words Van Briggle Original and is initialed DLH, Deonne Holt.
Van Briggle pottery was founded by Artus Van Briggle 1901. Before moving to Colorado in 1899, Van Briggle was a major decorator for Rookwood Pottery in Ohio. After Artus died in 1904, the business was taken top over by his wife Anna and was renamed the Van Briggle Company. in 1910, the business was reorganized as Van Briggle Pottery and Tile Company.
Deonne Holt worked with Van Briggle Pottery as a finisher from 1979-1985. She would take the pottery, already thrown, and add the artistic details. Deonne was only with the company for 6 years, which makes her markings desirable.
In addition to the DLH marking, the desert rose glaze was only utilized by Van Briggle Pottery between 1982-1983, making this piece very collectible.
The Van Briggle Lily Pitcher Measures 5.5”W (from spout to handle) x 5.0”H. It is in excellent gently used condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The pitcher has a white residue from firing on the bottom. Please view the enclosed photograph.
