Beautiful handmade chess sets, chess boards and chess pieces crafted for you here in Ireland.
This listing is for a beautiful custom made reproduction set of the "Gothic" chess set designed by the Georgian-Russian-American sculptor Peter Ganine and featured in no less than 3 episodes of the original the greatest 60's Sci Fi series ever made (I'm sure you know it).

The original chess set was played on that wonderful three level chess board that has achieved iconic status over the years.

The pieces are lovingly decorated to create a metallic aged effect in keeping with the character of the pieces, and which represents many hours of dedicated work.

The pieces are made from reconstructed stone and come with felt bases attached as standard.

The tallest piece (The King) is 11 cm's tall with close to a 4 cm base and the pawns are 6cm tall with close to a 3 cm base, making this quite a substantial collection of chessmen.

As well as enjoying the aesthetic quality of playing chess with such a beautiful chess set, the act of playing chess itself has been linked to a variety of health benefits and is said to help develop perspective, improve memory, increase intelligence, deepen focus, elevate creativity, boost planning skills, increase self-awareness, protect against dementia, help ADHD and reduce panic attack symptoms.

This chess set is beautifully rendered and is a great addition to any chess collection.

The chess set is a collection of handmade castings and if handled with care will last a lifetime, however as with all earthenware they are not impervious to wear and tear and can break or chip if bumped or dropped onto a tiled floor for example (as most figurines will). As a general and by no means comprehensive guide, these pieces should be handled in the same way one would handle all earthenware or pottery.

The pieces will be individually wrapped and carefully packaged to ensure safe arrival at their new home.
