top Puffins are among the most photogenic and beloved seabirds. This horned puffin is presented in its dramatic breeding plumage. Horned puffins nest in the north Pacific Ocean, and while I have not been that far north, I was able to observe these creatures at the Monterey Bay Aquarium exhibit.
You often see photos of a puffin holding a dozen fish in its beak. You are no doubt wondering: how do they hold the fish in beak while hunting for more? According to the Monterey Bay Aquarium website, ‘they have a raspy tongue which holds fish against spines on the palate, so the hunter is able to open its beak to capture more.'
For my loyal collectors of seabird etchings, this puffin is the same size image and paper as the tufted puffin and most of my other seabirds.
