This Stone is an incredible aqua blue on a tan substructure, a totally amazing cabochon. If you have not seen or used this stone before in your jewelry, I guarantee that you will sell it quickly, this color is so rare in nature, and resembles the amazing color of the sky.

Please note the color of this stone seems a bit lighter on my screen than the actual stone, it is more of a nice light sky blue.

Hemimorphite, is a mineral which has been mined from the upper parts of zinc and lead ores, chiefly associated with smithsonite, which is more boitroidal. It was often assumed to be the same mineral and both were classed under the same name of calamine. In the second half of the 18th century it was discovered that there were two different minerals under the heading of calamine - a zinc carbonate and a zinc silicate, which often closely resembled each other.

The silicate is the more RARE of the two, and was named hemimorphite because of the hemimorph development of its crystals. This unusual form, which is typical of only a few minerals, means that the crystals are terminated by dissimilar faces. Some specimens show strong green fluorescence in shortwave ultraviolet light.

This is a Nice LARGE sized piece it is usually found in smaller sizes.

It is a beautiful organic shape, and is a good stone for the novice jeweler because smooth surfaces and a good top bezeled edge.
