Antique Japanese Porcelain Tea Set: Teapot, Sugar Bowl with lid, Tea Cup & Saucer, High Tea Party, Tea Lover Gift. Hand Painted Kutani China Hand Painted Eagle and Wisteria Motif with Golden Signature

This beautiful Japanese Eggshell porcelain tea set was made in Yokohama during Taisho Period (1912-1926) probably by Tashiroya (Tashiro-ya) located in Nagoya and began in 1878 by Tashiro Ichiroji. The company later came to be known as Tashiro Shoten (Tashiro Company) and changed their name to Tashiro & Co. Ltd. located in Nagoya.

This Set contains small teapot with lid, one tea cup and saucer, sugar bowl with lid, and one extra saucer/ cookie plate.
The sugar top bowl is large enough to act also as lidded candy/cookie jar or to store a piecec of candied ginger.

Sugar Bowl and Teapot were created in gorgeous full shape and both their lids are topped with small porcelain flower.

Stunning, very detailed decoration depicting wisteria blossom and flying eagle was artfully hand painted with light ink wash technique in subtle colours.

Background: Shaded White
Decorations: Hand Painted Wisteria blossom and flying Eagle decoration in Shaded Greens, Purple, Gray, Brown, Blue, Yellow and White. Black, red and green with gold rim finish.

Tea Cup Measurements:
1 9/10" (4.8 cm) High
3 4/5" (9.7 cm) Diameter

Saucers Measurements:
5 1/2" (14 cm) Diameter

Teapot Measurements:
5 9/10" (15 cm) High (with lid)
4 1/3" (11 cm) High (without lid)
5 1/5" (13.2 cm) Width at the widest point
2 1/3" (5.8 cm) Width at the narrowest point

Sugar Bowl Measurements:
5 1/2" (14 cm) High (with lid)
4 1/10" (10.5 cm) High (without lid)
6 1/10" (15.5 cm) Width at the widest point
2 3/4" (7 cm) Width at the narrowest point

Listed items are in good vintage condition but please remember those were previously owned and used.
There is a small crack on the teapot and another one on one of the saucers (as seen on the pictures attached).

Tentative date: 1920's.

Hand drawn manufacturer marks painted in gold on black background still can be seen on all pieces (not all can be read).

Unfortunately the best preserved mark was shown on the tea cup that cracked (originally this set had 2 tea cups with saucers). I can send the cracked tea cup together with the set, so that the buyer can confirm mark genuineness).
Nonetheless I was not able to fully read the signature mark.

Style in which set was created, painting theme and technique, colours used and shape led me through my search to conclusion that this set was created during Taisho Period.

Eagles motif painted with light ink wash technique in a Kutani style porcelain suggests Yokohama as place of origin. Most probably Tashiro Shoten Ltd, "porcelain shop in Yokohama which were active before WWII up until 1954"*.
