The gemstone is found on the Peridot Mesa in Gila County, Arizona. Mining of the gemstone is done by the Native Americans and their families.
The gemstones found on the Peridot Mesa began as a volcanic eruption and basalt flow millions of years ago. Tons of ash and molten rock were left behind after the volcano erupted. Many of the peridot stones are found as crystals hardened within the volcanic ash.
