Vintage Kathmandu Nepal Hand Carved Wooden Dolls Jyapu Figurines Hand Made Ethnic Clothing Man and Woman
Amazing pair of hand carved wooden dolls, in hand made ethnic clothing. They represent the Jyapu, the indigenous people of Kathmandu Valley in Nepal.
The man measures 8" tall x approx. 4 1/2" long including baskets x 2" wide. The woman measures 7 3/4" tall x approx. 3 1/4" long x 3" wide.
The two dolls, Jyapu, are carved from wood and dressed in textiles from the region. The faces, heads are hand painted.
The bottoms of the pedestals they are on, are stamped "NEPAL 1989".
Both dolls are in great condition. The clothing is all intact as well with no stains or tears. The wood carvings are excellent without any damage. The facial carvings are unbelievable and very intricate. One of the earrings are missing on the woman, upon close examination.
There are 2 water baskets that the man is carrying , over a pole that is glued to his back, and the baskets can be removed. The woman has a tool in her one hand glued to her hand, and has a pole slung over her shoulder, which can be removed.
