Product code: Native American Hopi Carved Longhair Katsina Sculpture top
This Kachina doll is pre-owned and in excellent condition. Figure is carved from Cottonwood Root which is extremely light weight. Not sure of a time period for this figurine. Bought at an estate sale- the information in this listing is what I have learned through much research. Please view on wide screen to see all the details of this Kachina doll. Thanks! The Longhair (Angak'china) is originally from Zuni Pueblo. Longhair appears at most Hopi Mesas. He wears his hair loose on his back to represent falling rain. He is one of the most popular of all Katsinam. These Katsinam appear in a group and sing a very powerful melodious song which may be one of the reasons that they are such favorites. Their purpose is to bring rain, and it is said that they seldom dance without the appearance of a soft gentle rain to help the crops grow. Hence the rainbow at the bottom of the figurine over the homestead and red rocks. 11.5" top H X 2.75" W All reasonable offers will be entertained.
