I am a Choctaw Native American artist living in Arizona. My inspiration for this painting was a historical photo by Edward Curtis of a warrior seen from the side. He is holding a Coup stick and his headdress has been adorned with crow feathers, his totem.
The beautiful headdress speaks to a warrior of courage and integrity. The crow feathers are not merely decorations but are a representation of the spiritual world which invest him with strength and vision. The crow has imbued the warrior with special traits that he will call upon throughout his life. Whether as a warrior or a dancer, they are one in the same.
