Hand-printed letterpress poster.
All RNR Showprint posters are printed with a combination of historic wood and lead type fonts and custom blocks on vintage proofing presses. We only use high-quality commercial printing papers.
This poster is a part of the acclaimed ongoing series, The Smithville Papers, consisting of typographic and printing experiments created in response to the recordings collected in Harry Smith's storied Anthology of American Folk Music. Released in 1952, the Anthology compiled obscure works from the earliest years of electronically recorded music chronicling the hopes, ambitions and fears of rural communities. These sounds percolate through our studio, and resonate with the traditions and vocabulary of the historic letterpress prints which inspire our work.
The tenth print explores the 1929 recording of Willie Moore by the Kentucky duo of banjo and guitar player Dick Burnett, and fiddler Leonard Rutherford.
This print measures 14.5”w x 23”h, and is printed in dark blue and black on Cougar Natural stock. Because each piece is hand printed, some variation will occur. Prints are carefully shipped unframed rolled in a shipping tube.
