The process:
Every item is handmade from start to finish. I begin with an image, sketched by hand from original creations, inspired by original stark black and white photography. The next step is to transfer the image, either to wood or linoleum to begin the hand carving process. Once the original image is cut, the transfer to paper begins. The wood or linoleum is covered in ink, with the recessed area receiving no ink. This allows a transfer to paper with a traditional hand baren or, in the case of larger prints like these, a small printing press.
Limited edition of 50, numbered and signed. Copies from lino and wood vary from print to print. This listing should be considered representative of the prints.
The printed image area is roughly 11in x 17in. The paper itself is 18in x 24in, heavyweight Strathmore 280 gsm. Caligo relief ink for the transfer.
The framed photos in top the listing use a 18in x 24in black mat with a 12.5in x 18.5in opening.
Item is available only as a print, without mat or frame.
