An eye-catching large hand thrown bowl.
The dimensions are as follows: height 12 - 13 cm, diameter at top 24 - 26 cm. I make each bowl myself so please be aware that there is some variation in size between each item. These bowls are made with a cream coloured clay.
The bowl are made on the wheel and once the clay dries out a little, I decorate them. I use coloured slips (liquid clay which I stain different colours), and sgraffito technique. The slips provide a colour through which marks are made usually with a fine needle, showing the colour of the clay top behind. Following a biscuit firing, I apply a transparent food safe glaze and fire my kiln to 1250 °C, a stoneware temperature.
The design is inspired by my love of wildflower meadows and hedgerows. I spent time observing a local meadow, Shipbourne Common, change over the seasons. It is delightful seeing the apparent lightness of the flowers responding to a breeze and the depth of colour as you explore down to the earth, seeing the layers of plants.
Each bowl has my makers stamped on it. It's my initials (M and W) made into a butterfly.

All items are packaged in a special cardboard box, secured with paper ribbon and a business card. They are then placed in a further box with compostable chips for transit. Occasionally I use other packaging in order to reuse it and avoid sending it to landfill.
