Antique Original JUGENDSTIL SILVER top BROOCH with Pearl Dangle, Circa 1910-1918, Hallmarks, Tested, Rare
This is an original antique Jugendstil Brooch with a river pearl dangle and green paste stone.
Jugendstil was a design movement in Germany (similar to Art Nouveau in France) at the start of the 20th C. This piece is circa 1910-1918. It's hallmarked and the materials have been tested.
And it is rare, not because of its age, but because of that brilliant design. A laurel wreath with bow, crosshatched and stippled detailing and the intense burst of emerald green stone (paste). It has a certain serene beauty.
MEASUREMENTS
SIZE: 1.5" L (with dangle) by 1 1/8th" wide.
WEIGHT: 8.4 grams.
HALLMARKS: "S" and Ges Gesch". (Unsure if the "S" mark is for silver or a makers top mark.)
(We found this description of the GES mark in the Tampa Bay Times - "Ges Gesch" is the abbreviation for Gesetzlich Geschutzt, a German phrase used after 1899 meaning legally patented or registered. That indicates that the design is protected by law and cannot be copied.")
TESTING: White metal acid-tested positive at sterling silver. Green stone tested on Presidium Gem Tester as glass.
CONDITION: Very fine antique estate condition. Pin is secure when when worn. This piece could easily be converted to a pendant by your jeweler.
