The mighty oak, pictured above before nature claimed it in 2002, stood watch over General James Longstreet's men as they formed for the assault on the Peach Orchard, Wheatfield, and Round Tops on 2 July 1863. This keepsake pen was handcrafted from this tree. As you enjoy it, you become part of the great events that unfolded around the very roots of this tree. Feel the tension, enthusiasm and fear of those gallant men preparing for battle. Hear the deafening sounds of cannon and musketry. Listen to the mournful cries of the wounded and dying. See the acts of incredible courage and unspeakable horror. With this pen, you have now become a witness to that history.
This pen is guaranteed hand crafted from the historic “witness tree” harvested from Seminary Ridge on the Gettysburg Battlefield. Soldiers from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, and Mississippi prepared to launch their assault against the Union left on this ground on 2 July 1863.
“Witness trees” were on the battlefield at the time of the battle top. There are but a handful of trees remaining. They bear the lasting effects of the horror of the battle. You may observe some discoloration due to lead striations of bullets and shells and other irregularities.
