Product code: Eastlake top Double Oil Lamp Bracket, 1870s

This antique double oil lamp wall bracket was manufactured by Stover Manufacturing in Freeport, Illinois, in a style known as Eastlake, after a prominent English designer, Charles Eastlake. These designs were a reaction to the overly ornate Victorian style popular in the late 19th century. Eastlake designs incorporate elements of mediaeval, gothic and renaissance designs to produce simple yet elegant forms for furniture and other household furnishings.
Eastlake designs were popular in both Great Britain and America throughout the 1870s and 1880s, and into the early 20th century, before being supplanted in popularity by Art Nouveau, Craftsman style and eventually Art Deco designs.
This oil lamp bracket is top a fine example of American household furnishings in the decades before the advent of electric lighting.
The bracket is iron, and when mounted, projects from the wall about 16 inches. The bracket weighs about 4 pounds.
The condition is very good, there are no breaks, cracks or repairs.
With energy supplies becoming less secure, a wall mounted oil lamp bracket would provide a stable and cost efficient backup or alternative during power outages. This double oil lamp bracket would provide extra lighting for larger gatherings, or a larger room, or perhaps even softer lighting for a dining area.
This bracket would also provide a stable support for a couple of large emergency candles, as an alternative to oil lamps.
For dramatic home decor, the bracket could be used to hold potted plants, such as the flowing and draping spider plants that were popular back in the 1960s and 1970s.
Whatever your home decor choices may be, this double wall bracket would lend a fine accent with a genuine piece of 19th century Americana to almost any room or setting.
Makes a lovely gift as well.
