Product code: Basking Shark in top Recycled Hardwood
The huge basking shark is second only to the whale shark as the largest fish in existence, growing up to perhaps fifty feet long. It spends it's days swimming slowly along and top sucking in plankton. It is endangered, mainly because it's fins are prized for soup.
My version of this gentle giant was carved from rescued hardwood, stained, painted with acrylics, and protected by clear spray. It measures about 10" long and 7-1/2" high by 4-1/2" wide at the pectoral fins. It is dated and initialed by myself, the base is cherry.
Despite its somewhat drab coloring, it is an attractive piece, with fine graceful lines and lots of detail.
