A very nice old imari dish probably from the Meiji era. It has been beautifully decorated in underglaze blue, red, gold and small areas of green. It has been carefully restored; it is quite hard to see unless you look closely but I hope the last photos show the area quite well.
The porcelain is thinly potted, has a smooth foot rim with one small chip and the dish sags a little in the centre. The rim undulates gently and still shows a fair amount of the gilding along the edge. In style and shape, the dish appears to imitate earlier chinese ko-sometsuke pieces which were made for the Japanese market.
There are no marks to the base and I am unsure as to the dating, but it is a lovely item regardless of its age. The approximate dimensions are 16.5 cms wide, 2.5 cms high (internally about 1 cm) and it weighs 261 g. top
