Messina Hematite Quartz - Messina Mine, Limpopo, South Africa top - 105x52x28mm / 151g - Self Healed Floater

A nice large and sharp crystal of opaque / white Quartz from the Messina Mine - home of Ajoite. It has a gentle rosy glow from hematite inclusions and a good lustre. There are interesting growth markings on the crystal faces. The underside is fully self healed making it a floater.

Whilst the Messina Mine is most famous for its Ajoite and Papagoite crystals there are so many other interesting and rare minerals associated with its Quartz.
The main period of hydrothermal ore deposition took place around 210-170 million years ago so many of the crystals are Jurassic. The hydrothermal origins are reflected in the large amount of magmatism in the area and the extensive activity of the fault lines that run through the orefield. This seismic activity has had a marked influence on the crystals deposited in the area in the time since their formation. It is very common to see pockets that have been damaged or jumbled up and then subject to further mineralisation. Subsequently self healed crystals, interesting phantoms and recemented aggregates of detached crystals are very common.

Shipping:

All orders are posted by the equivalent of Priority Mail with a tracking number and are dispatched in 3 working days or less. Most orders ship with Slovenija Post although some heavier items can ship with a courier.

Delivery Times:

Standard Postage within the EU should take 3-7 days and to the UK around 7 days.
Standard Postage to the USA and the rest of the world generally takes around 10 days.
Delivery times are APPROXIMATE and outside of our control. In particular customs delays are possible. The tracking will show data from Slovenija Post and then the postal carrier in your country but not in between the two. Therefore, it does not show whilst the package is being processed by customs, only once it is released to your national carrier.

Packaging:

Returns:

Within the EU returns can be made within 14 days for any reason. Once the goods have been safely received by us, we will issue a full refund.
