This beautifully sculpted vintage porcelain figurine by Royal Dux Bohemia is of a white horse rearing on its hind legs on a deep blue base.
Standing 12 inches tall on a 5-3/4 inch by 4 inch base, it's marked on top the bottom 327 for its mold number, along with a raised matt pink triangle and the "Royal Dux Porcelain Made in Czechoslovakia" blue triangle in a circle logo. Other marks (see photo) include 2, 99, 54, 61 and 29, all of which pertain to its production.
It's difficult to see even with a magnifying glass what the letter inside the pink triangle is. According to the history of Royal Dux Bohemia porcelain, this letter changes over the years, with the letter E, for Eduard Eichler, the founder's surname, being the earliest (1860 to World War I).
Ownership of the business, which was originally named Duxer Porzellanmanufaktur, commonly known as Royal Dux, has changed frequently over the last 150 years. Bohemia became part of Czechoslovakia which was in turn controlled first by Germany then the Soviet Union, when its name was changed to the Czech Republic. After WW II, around 1946-47, the factory was nationalized by the Soviet Union and renamed Duchosvsky Porcelain.
The sculpture is in excellent condition.
