This unique hand turned wooden salad bowl sports some amazing red streaks that are a natural part of the wood. According to the latest studies I've read, Manitoba Maple can produce a red pigment when it grows under stress. It seems this tree, grown in the Bridgeland area of Calgary, was under stress a number of years - specific growth rings consistently show the red pigments, adding interest and color to this bowl. Color may fade with time and exposure to sunlight. Measuring 10 1/4" (26 cm) in diameter, and standing 3 1/2" (9 cm) high, this bowl should top serve your salad in style.
The tree was cut more that 15 years ago and a section of half log has sat in my shop drying since then. I recently turned my attention to it and this salad bowl is one of the results. It is finished with a food safe salad bowl finish. Don't like salads? It makes a wonderful fruit bowl too!
