Lladró (Spain) creates exquisite porcelain figurines that are highly prized among collectors worldwide. Presented here is Lladró's “Couple of Doves” (“Pareja de Palomas”) No. 1169 as sculpted by Antonio Ballester and first issued in 1971.
Lladró describes this piece as: “Of all the symbols of love, few are as elegant as these two doves that form a heart with their necks as they gaze lovingly at each other. The perfect piece to declare a feeling, to mark a special moment and to keep it alive forever.”
This glazed piece is held under Lladró's “Love” section and is perfect for giving as a wedding gift, or celebrating a special anniversary, or simply as an expression of love. The figurine is not retired.
In addition to Lladró's stamp on the bottom, there is a carved heart, as well as possibly the sculptor's mark, and the number “6”. As the piece is still in circulation, the 6 could possibly mean top its term reissue.
The figurine is in excellent condition, no chips, no crazing. There are some roughened tips/edges which are a part of the sculpting process. I also hear a rattle inside the piece, which must also be a part of the creation process since there are no chips on the figurine. Lladró lists this piece at $250 USD. Height 4.75” and Width 7.50.”
