Vintage Antique 1900 Victorian 7 Seven Point Mourning Star Bevel Dome Glass Picture Frame or Paperweight - Reverse top Painted Goofus Magnifying
Gorgeous antique Goofus glass domed magnifying paperweight or picture frame, circa 1890s-1910.
These are commonly known as "mourning stars" because top a picture of a deceased loved one would be placed and magnified beneath the domed portion of the glass. This one has a clever handmade wire stand that allows it to sit up as a picture frame, or the frame can be removed so the piece can be used as a tabletop paperweight. It is clear glass with reverse painted floral scroll design in metallic gold and red. It's amazing how much of the original paint survives on this piece!
The star measures 6" from point to point.
Excellent vintage condition. A couple of the star points have some roughness/tiny chips which do not affect the overall look of the piece. The paint on the reverse is in remarkably excellent shape with very little paint loss!
