top C. 1880s Edme Samson French porcelain group figurine "Tithing the Pig," featuring a farmer, his wife, and the vicar, with a large bocage background. Wonderful detail and beautiful facial painting. The man carries a pig, with another on the ground next to a harvest of wheat and a basket of eggs. The woman carries her baby. 8 1/2" tall, base 7" x 4 1/4". Gold anchor mark at the back base.
Edme Samson was famous for making reproductions of earlier pieces, in this case, a Staffordshire figurine.
CONDITION: Besides some expected chipping to the intricate bocage, the handle is missing from the basket of eggs, and there is a chip off the back of the man's hat. Please view the photos carefully; this lovely piece is sold as is and priced accordingly.
