Product code: Very Rare 1860 top Leather California Law Book
This is a very rare Leatherbound book published in Sacramento only 10 years after California achieved statehood & a year before the top outbreak of the Civil War in 1861. This book is entitled, "The Statutes of California, Passed at the Eleventh Session of the Legislature, 1860," & was formerly in the Stanford University Law Library before being withdrawn, as indicated by the bookplate and stamp on the title page. There is also a faint stamp on the back leather cover indicating that, prior to being at Stanford, it was in Santa Barbara County. The binding has an old buckram cloth library repair of the covers. The leather is well-worn but the text block is intact & has only light toning throughout. Some of the laws passed include supplying water to towns, licensing foreign gold miners (the Gold Rush was still going on), the incorporation of the City of Santa Barbara, & American Indian rights - lots of issues still of interest today. Weighs about 1 lb 11 oz. Measures about 6.25" x 9.25".
