-Vintage Japanese silk kimono jacket (haori) with abstract batik design. Estimated age: 1940s-1950s; see condition details below.
-This crepe silk kimono cardigan jacket was hand-dyed using the Japanese batik technique resulting in an abstract marbled design in off-white, soft pink and shades of blue.
-Inside, the silk or silk blend lining has a pattern of abstract grasses and butterflies in off-white, light pink and light gray. The lovely Japanese art fabrics were entirely hand sewn together to create this unique silk kimono robe; not machine sewn.
-I found this when I lived in Japan for nine years; at a Japanese department store “used kimono sale.” From my personal hand-selected collection. Great gift for you or someone else!
-CONDITION: Vintage used condition outside (50 years old or more): 1 light age spot (½” x ½”) on the front right (see photo, but hard to see in the detailed pattern); no holes or tears. Lining is in excellent vintage condition.
-SIZE INFORMATION (approximate): Please measure and ask me questions before purchase.
-Width: across the back from sleeve tip to sleeve tip—48”.
-Length: center back from collar top to the bottom—32”.
-Sleeve: Width: 12” x Length: 18”
-U.S. Women's Size: Best fits X-Small, Small, or Medium to wear in traditional Japanese style with no open gap in the center.
-FABRIC: Silk, light to medium weight
-CARE: Professional dry clean only.
-This vintage kimono jacket was not originally designed to overlap or close in the center with a sash but to be worn open to show what is under it. The original inside tie closures are not included. You could add your own closure.
-In Japan, haori is a jacket worn over kimono.
-Today they can be worn casually as a boho kimono with jeans; at home as a silk robe or lingerie; and even wear them inside-out to reveal the unique lining.
-Can also be used as a short silk bridesmaid robe or a special bridal robe.
-Some use as unique silk jackets to weddings, the opera and concerts.
-Such superior Japanese textile art also adds a lovely touch to home or business decor. They can be displayed as large wall art.
