Rare and elegant Wightman & Hough MORPHEUS BUTTERFLY WING Antique 12k gold pin brooch.
Measuring 1 1/8" diameter, the gold tests as 12k...possibly rolled gold.
An Art Nouveau style openwork swirl and floral border frames this delicate brooch.
Featured in the center is a background of a real butterfly wing with a miniature butterfly created, from butterfly wing parts in the center. The detail is amazing. One can see the veins of the miniature butterfly as well as the antennae.
A clear glass dome covers this hand-created nature scene.
The C-Clasp is original to the period and holds securely.
Excellent condition. The colors of the Morpheus Butterfly may have faded over the last 117 years, but it does not take away from the beauty and unusualness of the piece. No scratches, dings, or grunge to the gold.
