These German ARI dolls were made sometime after WWII and probably in the mid 20th Century. The name 'ARI' is short for August Riedeler who was founder of a toy wholesale company in the Konigee, Germany. The dolls were made of various materials for many years and the later dolls are made of rubber or soft vinyl with articulated arms and legs and hand painted faces, hair and shoes.
Dating the dolls can be difficult but sometimes the costumes can give a clue. The large and bright pattern of the mother's dress and the knit fabric on the others indicates that these dolls were probably made in the 1960's or 70's. All are marked on their backs 'ARI' (in a triangle) and 'Germany'.
Made in approximately 3/4" (1:16) scale. the man and woman top are both 4 1/2" tall and the twin girls are 3 1/4". Shown with 3/4" scale chair for sizing.
The dolls are in good condition with no damage or paint loss. The clothing is another matter with soiling, wrinkling, fraying and various other issues. The girl in orange has lost her undies somewhere along the way. Please use the pictures as further illustration of condition.
